General structure of the VTC theory test

The VTC theory test is a national written test, organised throughout the year by the regional CMAs.

• Total duration : 3 hours and 50 minutes
• Format: MCQs and QRCs
• Number of questions : around 100 in total (the exact number may vary depending on the session)

The seven subjects on the programme

The test consists of seven subjects. Five of these are common to the taxi exam, while two are specific to the VTC profession.
The duration, coefficients and eliminatory marks are set by ministerial decree.

The exact number of questions may vary slightly from one session to the next, but the durations and coefficients remain constant.

1. Regulation of T3P and prevention of discrimination and sexual and gender-based violence

• Approximately 10 MCQs and 5 MCQs
• Duration: 45 minutes

3. Road safety

Contents: Highway code, road signs, safety distances, preventive behaviour.
To remember: some questions concern rare signs or situations specific to professional driving.

4. French

• Approximately 7 MCQs and 3 MCQs

Contents: reading comprehension and written expression.
To remember: it's not about grammar, it's about’analysis and synthesis. The typical exercise is an explanation of a text.

5. English

• Approximately 20 MCQs

Contents: common vocabulary, polite expressions, understanding simple sentences.
To remember: expected level equivalent to that of a secondary school pupil. The aim is to test your ability to understand and welcome an English-speaking customer.

6. Business development

• Approximately 12 MCQs and 4 MCQs
• Duration: 30 minutes
• Coefficient : 3
• Eliminatory mark : < 6/20

Contents: customer relations, prospecting, building customer loyalty, professional communication.
To remember: This subject assesses customer service and management skills.

7. National regulations specific to VTC activities

• Approximately 6 MCQs and 2 MCQs
• Duration: 20 min
• Coefficient : 3
• Eliminatory mark : < 6/20

Contents: rules specific to VTCs: registration, professional card, operating conditions.
To remember: This subject requires an excellent knowledge of the legal and administrative framework specific to the profession.

Scale and conditions for success

Eligibility is based on two cumulative criteria:

1. Overall weighted average ≥ 10/20
   (the coefficients for each subject are taken into account)
2. No eliminatory marks
   • General threshold: 6/20 minimum
   • Exception for English: minimum 4/20

Grading of MCQs

Each question can have several correct answers.
Points are only awarded if all the correct answers are ticked and no wrong answers.
There is no no half points, which requires absolute precision.

Example: if the correct answers are A and C, ticking only A or ticking A, B and C gives 0 points.

Procedure

You can register online on the official CMA portal :

From 1st November 2025, This site will gradually be replaced by the new national portal examT3P.fr, which will centralise all examinations for public passenger transport.

Documents to be provided

For French or European nationals:

• Valid identity document
• B driving licence (probationary period over)
• Proof of address less than 3 months old
• Recent passport photo
• Digital signature on white background

For non-EU nationals :

• Valid residence permit authorising professional activity
• The same documents as above (licence, proof, photo, signature)

Ineligibility criteria

• Licence still on probation
• Permanent withdrawal of a professional card in the last 10 years
• Exclusion for cheating on a T3P exam in the last 5 years

Sequence of events

Practical organisation

Examination sessions are held at regional CMAs.
Candidates are invited by e-mail, often with several hundred participants on the same site.
A strict identity check is carried out at the entrance: invitation + ID required.

Each subject is delivered in a sealed envelope, to be opened only on a signal from the supervisors.
Only the pen and the non-programmable calculator are authorised.
Phones and connected watches are strictly forbidden.

Answer sheet

Answers must be entered on a optical grid.
Each box must be filled in carefully: an incorrectly ticked box may invalidate the answer.

Fighting fraud

Any attempt at fraud (exchanges, telephones, unauthorised documents) will result in :

• Immediate exclusion from the session,
• No re-registration during 5 years,
• File forwarded to the CMA for sanction.

Results and next steps

Publication of results

• Average time : 3 to 4 weeks after the event
• Consultation : on the CMA website and in the candidate area
• Notification : by email

Successful candidates receive a certificate of eligibility, valid 1 year.

Validity and number of attempts

During the year :

• Candidates may apply up to three times to the practical test.
• After three unsuccessful attempts, he retake the theory test to renew your eligibility.

In the event of failure

Unsuccessful candidates receive a detailed transcript of records by e-mail.
To retake the exam, you must re-register and pay the registration fee again.
